Bazaari aims to give voice to the Iranian mannequins: silent witnesses of a change of mentality and misterious inhabitants of the bazaars. The project takes its name from the merchants and workers of the bazaars, the traditional marketplaces of Iran, which have been described as “the class of people who helped make the 1979 Iranian Revolution”. Today, these places are in some stage of transition between the world of A Thousand and One Nights and that of the suburban shopping mall.
Some of their mannequins, full of nuances, reflect the strict moral codes imposed by the theocratic regime. Others, show the slow transformation of a learned and modern society that looks to the West in search of new aesthetic references.
